photography
something else i was thinking about before all this - and now in the context of my going or not going to cambodia it's sort of relevant - and that is that i've realized while being here that i need to go back to school or take classes in digital photography. i just don't have the technical skill to back up what i bring naturally and unfortunately, in terms of digital photography, it reflects poorly in my photographs. i know what i want them to look like, but they rarely do. i might be able to find good angles, subjects, create good composition, or otherwise luck into a shot, but a lot of times the color, lighting, etc. isn't quite there, and that's definitely a matter of improving my technical skills. i first realized this when i was shooting at old sukhothai because the shots of the ruins were just looking kind of average/generic, there wasn't that extra pop that makes them stand out. there are a few in there that worked better, but i just don't know how to use all the tools at my disposal, and until i do, my photos aren't going to be at the level that i want them to be at. i was thinking about this again just now because i was thinking that that could be a benefit of not going to cambodia now. i would be able to go home, learn more, get better technically, and come back and take the kind of shots that i want to take, and not the ones i have to now that will not satisfy me completely.
