food and more

i forgot to mention the tasty things i've had in the last couple days. so far i've been playing it safe here in order to avoid any stomach problems that would take time away from my trip. and also, i'm still trying to eat vegetarian which limits my options anyway (pretty much fried rice or fried noodles with veggies, still good, but enough of the same). but in hanging out with alex i've tried two things that were very very good and i wish i could bring them back with me. the first, which is so incredibly bad for you, was a banana dessert. a woman took dough and made it super flat, like, see-through thin, and then put it on a wok, then she added sliced banana on top and folded the edges of the dough over them making a square packet-type thing, then she fried it on both sides till it was like elephant ear texture. then she cut it into bite size pieces and drizzled sweetened condensed milk on top. it was sooooooo good. very sweet, but sooooo good. the other thing i tried today was a bamboo cane that had been baked i think. and inside was coconut rice and black beans. the baking made it the rice really sticky and stiff (not really stiff, it held the shape of the bamboo without being sticky on the outside, i don't know how to describe it really) and it took on some of the flavor of the bamboo, but was still sweet from the coconut. it's like, the perfect snack, you just peel away the bamboo and pull out pieces of the rice. and at 5 baht (like, 15 cents) you could eat them all day. another funny thailand thing is that i always have a lizard/gecko in my bathroom, there is a screen between the bathroom wall and the slits in the brick wall that let in light, and geckos climb through and get between the wall and the screen. they climb around the rafters at the guesthouse too, mostly at night. hmm, what else interesting. i think that might be it now. i randomly think about these things and realize i should share them, but then forget to write them here....so then i end up with like, 3 posts in a day as i remember them. have fun reading!!! : )
